Should the Pope resign?
by slimboyfat inquestions are being raised about whether pope benedict was personally involved in covering up a case of child sex abuse by a roman catholic priest.
documents seen by the new york times newspaper suggest that in the 1990s, long before he became pope, he failed to respond to letters about a us case.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8587082.stm.
that would prove the catholic church is capable of reform, no?

Rather than paste in many links or quotes, why don't you simply google 'catholic inquisition 50 million killed.' Obviously you will get all the sights that are throwing this figure around.
Other sights claim the whole thing is exaggerated depending on their agenda. Google in something along the line of 'Very few killed in catholic inquisition' and you will get different information.
As I said earlier in this thread, 'In the end we believe what we choose to. Only a serious and thorough study will lead to a fair assessment. (Hope this cheers BurnTheShips up) Like so many debatable subjects in life, proof is thin on the ground. In this modern world you get what you google.
Not knowing the exact number killed will not keep me awake at night - I am a gladiator for caesar's sake

The Pagan Christ
by poopsiecakes inhas anyone read this book?
i haven't, but i just watched a documentary on it.
the author's premise is that the idea of jesus as a god coming to earth came out of egyptian mythology and that there is no real archeological evidence that jesus actually existed.

Galileo was threatened by the Church with death because he claimed that Earth revolved around the Sun.
Now - had he claimed that Earth revolve around the Son he would be a bl**dy Pope by now!

Having looked into the matter of how many people were murdered during the Inquisition, the reports vary from hundreds of thousands to many millions. Many were tortured but embraced Catholicism to save their lives. Those that refuse were usually tortured to death or burnt at the stake.
It also seems that protestant catholics also engaged in their fair share of murdering Roman Catholics. Christian murdering Christian, all to the glory of the most high.
If I have given inaccurate figures I apologise. I can only go by what I read. I grovel at the feet of his Popeness and recant instantly, without undergoing torture. Despite the gladiator costume, I was not alive during this grisly period of compulsory conversion to Christian. The English or European version, depending on who was torturing you.
Perhaps the best thing the Pope can do is sit on the sharp end of his mitre until he is absolved!

Do not swim into deep water,
where you may find yourself spiritually isolated
and in peril. If ever you find yourself
there, immediately head back to ‘safe water.’
Otherwise, you might run the risk of being
devoured spiritually. Thanks for posting this - Truthseeker. I haven't read a Watchtower for some years. I developed an allergy them.
This the same old brain-washing drivel that I was raised on. It is written in a tone that one would normally speak to children in. It would actually be funny if it weren't for the damage this organisation does.
Members of the Christian congregation thus experience tranquillity unknown to others.
Now that is funny!

It depends on which part of its history you want to research.
Some weeks ago I watched a 58 minute video you tube which gave me an overview.
If you have the time and inclination, go to Youtube paste "Catholic Inquisition and The Torture Tools" in the search box. Gruesome but educating.
My interest was aroused by a thread on this forum. I realize it is all history now and have no particular axe to grind against the Roman Catholic Church. It does however cause me to question their claim to represent God.
Glad(iator) to see you back on the forum.

I have suggested you google this subject and decide for yourself. There is far more information to confirm the Catholic inquisition than there is to confirm the life of Jesus. In the end people believe what it suits them to.

"Since history books have been largely rewritten, few people know specific details of this murderous campaign that lasted over 1,200 years, killing 75 million people. But, once you understand the unprecedented horrors of the Inquisition, you will never look at Roman Catholicism the same way again."
I suggest you google 'catholic inquisition.' There is a vast amount of information available. (I have amended my first post to 1200 years)
You may well be shocked by the inhuman way so many were treated. I am so glad that I was not alive at that time and living in Europe.
If I have got it wrong you can come back and tell me.

As far as I can remember, during the Catholic inquisition it is estimated that 50,000,000 people were tortured to death.
A succession of 80 popes each invented a new torture device to add to the catalogue. Not one pope fail to apply his mind to this godly task. Not one pope was made to resign because of their part in this dreadful 1200 year period.
I can't see why they are likely to get all Holy now.

The Advantages of Hindsight
If Jesus did return in 1914, why did no one see him? Even the Witnesses, then known as “Bible Students,” were still waiting for him to come in 1918. Not until years later in1929, did the Society “realize” that Jesus had returned in 1914 and that they had failed to notice! Despite expecting Jesus, they missed him.
Did the Bible say that Jesus would not be noticed even by his chosen nation of Jehovah's Witnesses when he returned?
"Behold, he is coming with the clouds! Every eye will see him…" (Revelation 1:7 NE)
Whether this reference is meant to refer to the literal eye or not, there is no doubt that according to the Bible, Jesus will make himself known. The Watchtower Society overcame this discrepancy by saying that Jesus returned in a sense in 1914 to take up his presence invisibly. He then came again in 1919, also invisibly, to take the deceased members of the Society to heaven. They had originally taught that Jesus had returned in 1873.
They are still waiting for his third return, which is said to be any day now. This return will be noticed by the world.
This convenient way of using Bible prophecy is a pattern that occurs many times. Invisible or symbolic so far, literal and seen by everyone - always a day away. Did the Bible really predict that Jesus would return this many times, and why did the Witnesses miss him the first time, only realising with hindsight that he had visited?
